The Three Pillars of Young Living
The Beginning

Gary Young was many things: an innovator, a philanthropist, an explorer, and a pioneer of the modern-day essential oils movement. But above all, he viewed himself as a lifelong student. His study of essential oils began more than three decades ago in the Provence region of France, the birthplace of lavender distillation and home to the best lavender in the world. Generations of farmers worked this land for hundreds of years, encouraging the rocky soil of the Provencal hills to flower and bloom.

Here at the Simiane-la-Rotonde Lavender Farm and Distillery in Provence, Gary learned centuries-old traditions and combined them with his knowledge and innovative ideas to revolutionize the lavender production process. This is where he laid the groundwork to bring the world's most pristine Lavender essential oil to millions of homes around the world.

Testing and Research

Through stringent, unyielding quality benchmarks, Young Living is committed to identifying high-quality, genuine essential oils and product ingredients.

Their Quality Control (QC) team uses several validated physical, chemical, and microbiological scientific tests to measure the components and properties of their essential oils and essential oil—based products. For YL essential oils, these tests are repeated numerous times from raw material to finished product by highly trained scientists and independent third-party laboratories as part of the Quality Control process.
Setting industry standards from the start!

As part of their commitment to running their business in a compliant manner—from sourcing and producing essential oils to marketing and selling products—Young Living has developed a Global Compliance Program for their internal operations that outlines a series of mandatory policies and guidelines, as well as Lacey Act policies for suppliers of plant products.

The Lacey Act is the oldest wildlife protection statute in the United States. Originally enacted in 1900 to protect animal species, this law was expanded by Congress in 1981 to cover certain plants and plant products taken in violation of U.S. domestic law.
In 2008, Congress again expanded coverage of the Lacey Act to include all types of plants and animal materials.

Young Living has invested over four years of focused efforts in the development and implementation of their robust and comprehensive Global Compliance Program. Through these efforts and engagement with Lacey Act specialized counsel, local counsel from around the world, and environmental experts, Young Living has established itself as an expert and pioneer in ensuring Lacey Act compliance within the essential oils industry.
